MCI LAUNCHES PRIVATE LINE ETHERNET IN NINE EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Offers Premium Network Performance, Simplicity and Value to European Businesses

READING, United Kingdom, 2 February 2005 - MCI (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced the availability of MCI Private Line Ethernet service to business customers in nine European countries.  Now companies with multiple business locations can establish seamless high-speed connections between two or more local area networks (LANs) within a city, throughout a country or across international borders with end-to-end service management by MCI.

"MCI Private Line Ethernet enables businesses to obtain premium network performance at lower initial and recurring cost than more complex networking solutions," said Roberta Mackintosh, director of product management and development for MCI in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.  "Private Line Ethernet is a feature- and benefit-rich solution that offers uncommon depth, versatility and value to its users."

Private Line Ethernet delivers secure, ultra-reliable, high performance LAN-to-LAN connectivity by combining the simplicity, ubiquity and bandwidth flexibility of Ethernet with the reliability and security of the MCI network's Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology using proven optical technology from Nortel (NYSE: NT).  Connectivity speeds range from 2 Mbps to 100 Mbps with a high degree of bandwidth granularity.

Customers with multiple European business locations can use Private Line Ethernet to link separate LANs into a packet-based Transparent LAN network.  This provides users at each location with the feel and functionality of working on the same local area network.  In addition to increasing productivity, the Transparent LAN solution enables a company to reduce IT capital and operating expenses by consolidating its remote computing assets, servers and storage systems in a central location.  It also allows a business to fully leverage the benefits of real-time collaborative tools such as supply chain management, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management applications that are sometimes confined to separate LANs due to their sensitivity to wide area network (WAN) latency.

ADP Télécom, a company of the Aéroports de Paris Group, headquartered in Paris (Roissy) France, specializes in telecommunications services and networks for airport platforms and locations with heavy business traffic. ADP Télécom needed a data and networking solution for the 'Parc des Expositions' conference centre of Paris Porte De Versailles across France.  ADP Telecom wanted a solution that would be easily installed and provide premium network performance without expensive capital outlay - it selected MCI Private Line Ethernet.

"We chose MCI Private Line Ethernet service because it provides cost-effective technology with the security and dependability of an SDH network," said François Deschamps, Strategy, Marketing and Development Director, ADP Télécom.  "Private Line Ethernet consistently provides high quality connections to hundreds of conference centre customers during short but intense periods of use, averaging about 10 days per event.  MCI's long standing experience in delivering cutting-edge network solutions and telecom services to international exhibitions was also a key factor in ADP Télécom's decision to choose MCI."

MCI Private Line Ethernet is currently available in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.  The service is backed by service level commitment guarantees for on-time installation, service availability, mean time to repair and data throughput.  Pricing is flat rate, based on the customer's installed bandwidth.  MCI provides complete customer service and a single point of contact for ordering, installation, billing, maintenance, repair, fault management and full technical support.
